Metro Manila: Kabayan Hotel (Pasay)

Kabayan Hotel (Pasay) ~ August 2013

Date visited: 13 August 2013
Location: Pasay City, Metro Manila

Hubby & I wanted to watch Linkin Park at MOA, and weren’t too keen on commuting to and from the venue. Microtel MOA was obviously the best choice as far as location goes, but I found it rather expensive for what it offers. Most other choices were nice but too expensive, cheap but uber-yucky…you get the picture ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

After reading various reviews (mostly blogs & TripAdvisor), we decided on Kabayan Hotel in Pasay. It was easily accessible via public transpo, cheap (thanks to an online promo) & seemed clean & decent enough ๐Ÿ™‚

Reservations & booking: Booking was easy. After checking the room types/rates on their website (, I chose the Pad Twin (2 single beds, t&b, study table, closet, free plated breakfast, wifi), on promo at the time for Php1,950.00 vs regular price Php2,250.00. I booked directly with their website, about a month in advance, as I didn’t want to risk a no-room-at-the-inn scenario XD

How to get there: ย From Quezon City, we took the MRT from North Edsa to Taft. The hotel is located right beside the MRT station ๐Ÿ™‚ There’s also a (rather ratty) mall also accessible via the MRT, if you need to buy snacks or toiletries, or grab a quick bite. We didn’t really go there so I don’t know what restaurants or stores are available, but I expect you can get the basics or find a fast food place easily enough ๐Ÿ™‚

From the main entrance in front, we went past the coffee shop (where they also serve the complimentary breakfast) to the main lobby & reception desk. Checkin was fairly quick, and the staff were polite and efficient ๐Ÿ™‚ Then we were led up to our room:

The main bed is actually big enough for two, but I wanted to sleep in the top bunk hehehe ๐Ÿ˜€ Everything was clean and fairly un-ratty; the air-conditioner is a bit loud, so some people might find it annoying…but I like it because it drowns out any noise that might drift in from the corridor or neighboring rooms (FYI there wasn’t any :D)

Toiletries include soap, shampoo & toothpaste. I think toothbrushes were also included, but I can’t remember anymore, sorry…in any case, bring your own toothbrush just to be sure ๐Ÿ™‚ The bathroom was extremely tiny, with barely enough room to maneuver, but very very clean, and the hot shower was bliss. The wifi works well enough for browsing, email, etc but I wouldn’t advise streaming/downloading large media files ๐Ÿ˜›

There’s a hot water thermos & 2 drinking glasses; you can fill up the thermos from the hot water dispenser in the pantry. The TV is positioned rather awkwardly, but we didn’t care as we weren’t there to watch TV, anyway. Usually we just switch on the TV to drown out any noise from outside…we rarely ever watch it XD

The elevator lobby and the corridor leading to our room at the far end ๐Ÿ™‚

The pantry/utility room, with ironing facilities & hot water dispenser.

When it was time for us to go to MOA for the concert, we simply went out the side door, where there’s a shuttle that goes straight to MOA. Much cheaper and easier than hailing a cab ๐Ÿ™‚

(And yes, Linkin Park was AWESOME *_*)

After the concert, we took the jeep back as well, stopping at McDonalds for a late dinner takeout. Despite the general seediness of the area, we didn’t feel unsafe or anything, as there were still lots of people in the streets despite the late hour.

The next morning, we went down to the cafe for our complimentary breakfast. We were given a menu, and the waiter pointed out the menu for the day. Apparently, there’s a different menu to choose from everyday. I forgot what we chose (sorry) aside from the super-dry, rock-hard torta of some sort. Ketchup would have made it palatable, but we weren’t given any and I really didn’t want to go all the way to the other room, where the buffet was set up. Otherwise, everything else was okay, considering it’s free ๐Ÿ™‚

Our free breakfast ๐Ÿ™‚ It was filling enough, but please don’t ever choose the torta thingy…it’s horrible ๐Ÿ˜

After breakfast, we went back to our room to pack, then checked out. Checkout process was fairly simple, as long as one doesn’t mind the wait while housekeeping checks to make sure you haven’t trashed the room or packed all the furnishings into your luggage XD Most hotels do this anyway upon checkout, so I’m not really offended by it ๐Ÿ™‚

Overall, it was good enough for the price. Room, lobby & cafe were clean and homey, very Pinoy ๐Ÿ™‚ I can see how homesick balikbayans would feel comfortable staying here ๐Ÿ™‚ The next time we need to spend the night in Manila, we’re definitely choosing this hotel ๐Ÿ˜€ Maybe next time we’ll try their Kapsule pods :)))

(I’ve noticed though that the Pad twin is no longer included in the online booking form, I wonder why?)
